Save the Titanic Foundation – No, I’m not making this up

April 14, 2009 · Filed Under Current, Lore of the Sea

It is still the month of April and we are not that far from April Fool’s Day, but I swear I am not making this up.   On this the 97th anniversay of the sinking of the Titanic I ran across the “Save the Titanic Foundation” which is dedicated to raising the Titanic from her current resting place 2.5 miles below the surface of the North Atlantic, restoring her and tying her up at Ellis Island.   Their story involves premonitions, serigraphs, trumpets, candy apples, Armand Hammer, though only after he died, undisclosed “mysterious phenomena ” and the American dream.

Press Release: A Premonition of the Raising of the Titanic

Their website is full of bold language that appears to be English, but not quite:

The foundation is established for the honor and the commemoration of the international dreams aboard the Titanic, for the ongoing maintenance of the Titanic while beneath the ocean, for the preservation of the Titanic from deterioration and if ever permitted, for the spearheading of a potential raising of the Titanic.

We save the Titanic for being recorded in history as a generation that not only salvaged the Titanic artifacts, but also thrived to preserve the ship and ventured to preserve it from deterioration. When we preserve the Titanic, we also commemorate and memorialize the spirit of the Titanic American dreams behind those artifacts already salvaged and brought to surface for exhibition. Their maiden voyage should not be in vain! They were wealthy, middle class or poor; vying for a peice<sic> of the American dream! “

The Save the Titanic Foundation has recently issued a press release announcing its new comic book.

At the risk of repeating myelf, no, I am not making this up.

    Actually it’s kind of cool

It is cool in a wildly disconnected from reality sort of way. The cultist style prose is either amusing or scary, I can’t quite decide which.
