The Ladies of the Waves Rule Britannia

June 24, 2009 · Filed Under Current, Lore of the Sea

Last month we posted about Dee Caffari ’s planned attempt to break the Round Britain and Ireland sailing record with an all-female crew.  Dee Caffari is the first woman to have sailed alone around the world in both directions.  Well, they did it!    Our congratulations to Dee and her amazing crew.  As reported in Yacht Pals:

The Ladies of the Waves Rule Britannia

Dee Caffari, Sam Davies, Alex Sizer and Miranda Merron took the IMOCA Open 60 Aviva around the Islands in 6 days, 11 hours, 30 minutes and 53 seconds, and have set the monohull record. Not the Women’s record, mind you, but the overall record. To our knowledge, once ratified this will be the only overall sailing record currently in the books to be owned by an all woman team. You go Girls!

Dee is amazing sailor and each one of her crew is also impressive. Sam Davies, on her crew, held the previous Women’s record for the course.

    Thanks for your comment.
