The Onondaga Submarine Museum and “Monster Moves”

HMCS Onondaga, the longest serving submarine in the Canadian Navy, now has a new home at the Musee de la Mer de Pointe-au-Pere in Rimouski, Quebec. After narrowly avoiding being sold for scrap, the Onondaga was sold to the museum for $4 Canadian plus tax. The submarine has been restored for a reported $2.6 million, and is now open to the public. The rather distinctive bulge on the bow of the sub is a sonar dome.

The Onondaga was towed from Halifax to Rimouski by way of the Canso Canal in July 2008. The tow was featured in the reality TV show, “Monster Moves.”  Here is an excellent YouTube video of the tow.  

I wonder if I am the only one who finds the music a bit odd.  It is lovely in a strangely Volga Boatman sort of way.  I understand that the song is available on iTunes.

    Wonderful achievement ! Was on board her this past August. I have many great interior pictures and was impressed by what our Naval personal have to endure in one of these vessels . Next to the “Brador” further west at the Bernier Naval museum, I was proud to see that these great ships have escaped the torch !
