Sail Boston 2009 Gets Under Way
The tall ships have arrived in Boston and will be open to the public starting this evening. More ships will be open for tours tommorrow. Click here for a slideshow of ships arriving in Boston harbor .
Come Aboard! Tall Ships To Open To Public
After years of planning and sailing, more than 40 of the world’s biggest and most unique sailing ships have made port in Boston Harbor and will be open to the public for viewing this weekend, all part of Sail Boston 2009.
A variety of events surrounding the ships’ visit will be held throughout Boston over the weekend. The public will be able to board about 20 of the ships beginning Thursday at 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the Charlestown Navy Yard, the Boston Fish Pier and the World Trade Center piers. Later in the day there will be a crew and cadet soccer tournament at UMass Boston on Friday from noon to 3 p.m.
On Friday and Saturday, more public viewing of the ships and a Saturday festival at Downtown Crossing from noon to 2 p.m. On Sunday, the Seaport Music in the Park festival at the South Boston Maritime Park from noon to 4 p.m.
