The 20th Annual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race

Oh, to be on the Chesapeake this week.   Fifty schooners will race the 127 nautical miles between Fells Point in Baltimore, Maryland and Portsmouth, Virginia  in the 20th Annual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race.  The race promotes public awareness of the Bay’s maritime heritage and encourages the preservation and improvement of the Chesapeake’s natural resources.  The celebration begins tomorrow in historic Fells Point with “Schooners and Crooners”, a free concert series on the docks.   On Wednesday there will be a pre-race Parade of Sail with the race kicking off  Thursday and the ending Friday in Portsmouth. The festivities continue with Schooner Days  in Olde Towne, Portsmouth on Saturday and Sunday.
