Left Vietnam as a Refugee, Returns as a U.S. Navy Captain

hungbaleCommander H.B. Le is the first Vietnamese-American Navy Captain.  As reported by ABC News:

Hung Ba Le’s first ocean voyage was aboard an overcrowded fishing trawler when he was 5 and his family and hundreds of other terrified refugees fled Vietnam as Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese army.

Today he is Commander Le and at the helm of the warship USS Lassen as it makes a good will visit to the country he once fled.

“To think that 34 years ago… I left here as a little boy and to come back here now, it’s incredible,” said Le, the first ever Vietnamese-American Navy captain.

    This is one of those times when I feel immensely proud to be a citizen of the United States. Having visited over two hundred countries and lived in five of them I know there is no other country in the world where this is possible.
    For all our faults this is the best place to live with a Constitution that is standing the test of time and assaults from people who do not appreciate how lucky they are to be born here. So instead of whining about things get out there a help make them better. We the People make things work.
