Katie Spotz Will Attempt to Cross the Atlantic in a Rowboat

Katie Spotz plans on rowing from Dakar, Senegal, on Africa’s west coast, starting around Christmas time and hopes to  arrive in South America between 70 and 100 days later. If she succeeds, she will become the youngest person to cross an ocean in a rowboat, and the first American to row solo from mainland to mainland.    And I am pleased to observe that unlike the various teenagers who have recently completed, begun, or are planning circumnavigations, Ms. Spotz is a young adult of 22.

    Yes, but why? Learning to sail is not that difficult! Poor lass should be able to find someone to teach her… Anyway, good luck! :)

    Susan, yes of course. Anyone who attempts to row across a big stretch of water should consider sailing istead. It’s much more enjoyable…

    However, it was a joke. There even was a smiley… Sorry you took it so seriously.
