DUNKIRK: THE FORGOTTEN HEROES

A few days ago we posted about the “Little Ships of Dunkirk” returning to Ramsgate to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the evacuation.  This Friday there is what looks to be a very interesting documentary, Dunkirk: The Forgotten Heros,  focusing on escape of the British Expeditionary Force including the capture of 40,000 soldiers which was kept a secret by the British government for propaganda reasons.   It will be broadcast on the Yesterday channel in the UK.  With luck it may make it across the pond at some point.

DUNKIRK: THE FORGOTTEN HEROES

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of one of WWII’s most daring and spectacular events, Dunkirk: The Forgotten Heroes continues the year-long The Spirit Of 1940 strand of programming on Yesterday, which features new and exclusive shows, and tells the unknown story of the thousands of heroic men left behind to stop the German advance and to facilitate the famous mass evacuation across the Channel.   An incredible 100,000 soldiers were deployed during the evacuation to hold the Germans at bay and ordered to make a last stand, but fearing negative propaganda, the subsequent capture of 40,000 soldiers was kept secret.

While watching a rerun of Dunkirk The Forgotten Hero;s on sat tv i noticed in the opening minutes of the program a bunch of British prisoners of War were seen marching down a road.In the middle of this group was a soldier who was bare headed who as he approached the camara turned his head to look in the direction of camera crew.I believe that this man may have been my father who was fighting a reargaurd action at a village called Saigneville some miles from St Valery as the 51st Highland division weas trying to escape.
Would it be possible to purchase from you some still photographs to see if in fact it was my father

We posted about the documentary but were not in any way involved in its production. I believe the documentary was produced by Testimony Films (http://www.testimonyfilms.com/) for the Yesterday channel. (http://uktv.co.uk/network/item/aid/634200). You may want to contact Testimony to see if stills are available.
