HMS Bounty to Begin European Voyage

HMS Bounty is making ready to sail from San Juan, Puerto Rico tomorrow to begin this season’s European voyage.   She will be calling at ports in the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Poland, Sweden, Germany and Russia, before returning to the US around October. For her complete schedule click here. She was originally intending to sail today but was delayed awaiting the arrival of parts.

The ship is a replica of the Royal Navy ship on which a famous mutiny occurred in 1789.  She was built for the 1962 movie  “Mutiny on the Bounty,” starring Marlon Brando.

  1. It was disappointing to read the ‘Bounty’ schedule and see she will not be in Waterford, Ireland for the Tall Ships Festival to be held June 30 – July 03 2011. However during the same period she will be in Belfast, Northern Ireland for the ‘Titanic’ festival which I cannot believe the builders actually want to celebrate THAT tragic event in the first place. An event when I sailed in the British MN it was virtually forbidden to talk about it. One has to wonder about such decision-making.

    Good Watch

  2. It does seem an odd choice. I understand that the Coast Guard barque Eagle is sailing soon for Europe and will be calling at Waterford during the festival.

I find it interesting how the Titanic has morphed from a maritime tragedy to the backdrop for a major movie. Very odd.
