Halloween Haunted Ship Round-Up 2011

Who needs a haunted house if you can have a haunted ship? Around this time of year, historic and modern ships suddenly become haunted and ghostly. (To be fair, some are reported to be haunted all year round.) Here is a round-up of a lucky thirteen haunted or ghostly ships open to the public around Halloween. Check the links for dates, times and locations.

Nauticus Museum in downtown Norfolk, VA is giving visitors haunted tours of sections of the USS Wisconsin.

The Lake Superior Marine Museum Association is hosting the William A. Irvin Haunted Ship Tours in Duluth, MN.

In Erie, PA the Flagship Niagara is hosting Ghosts Afloat.

The Battleship North Carolina is transformed into a Ghost Ship in Wilmington, NC.

Blackbeard’s ghost is expected to make an appearance on the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point, Mount Pleasant, SC.

In Washington D.C. the Ghost Ship Barry is accepting visitors on Friday night.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mobile Bay in Sturgeon Bay, WI is being turned into a Ghost Ship.

In Newport Beach, CA, the Ghost Ship sets sail.

In Columbus, Ohio, the Santa Maria becomes a Haunted Ship.

On the USS Hornet, Alameda CA’s Haunted Aircraft Carrier, Halloween is being celebrated with a Monster Bash!

In Quincy, MA the USS Salem becomes the Haunted Ship

The windjammer Star of India in San Diego, CA, which is reported to be haunted by at least two sailors year round, is hosting a Halloween Carnival.

In Wildwood, NJ, Morey’s Piers at Mariner’s Landing is featuring “Terror on the Boardwalk” with their own Ghost Ship. 

In Newport, Kentucky, on the Ohio River, USS Nightmare, is America’s Premier Haunted Steamboat.  (Thanks to Tim Koch for pointing it out.)

  1. The same thing occurred to me. Perhaps I just missed it.

    The last time I went below decks on the Peking, it was a real horror show, just not of the Halloween type.
