You Mean the Titanic was Real and Not Just a Movie?

Last year, we posted about how the sinking of the Titanic had morphed from a maritime tragedy into a cultural icon.   For many, Hollywood movies, particularly the movie made by Jame Cameron, about the sinking of the ship may be more important than the sinking of the ship itself.  Taking the process one step further, the Gothamist recently posted an account of folks tweeting their surprise and shock that Titanic was a real ship and not just a movie (!)

  1. Amazing! One of histories most famous events and so many people are not aware of it. Sure it was a film but the film was based on real life facts – well dosed with Hollywood hype also. Yes Virginia Titanic was a real ship thought to be unsinkable by those who built her.

  2. Good lord, so many people not knowing the ship was real?!, I do not wish to live on this planet anymore…Yes, granted it was a movie. But it was also a true account and 8/10 % of the people you see in the movie were real did die and were missed. No jack and rose were not real….
