Carnival Blames Passengers for Costa Concordia Damages?

If the reporting is accurate, this doesn’t seem like the argument that Carnival should be making.

Passengers ‘blamed’ for Concordia damages

Costa Cruises parent company Carnival is said to have blamed passengers, at least in part, for the damages they sustained in the Costa Concordia shipwreck a year ago in documents pertaining to a law suit in the United States, according to the passengers’ lawyers. The disaster off Tuscany’s Giglio Island on January 13, 2011 claimed the lives of 32 people The John Arthur Eaves law firm, which is representing the passengers, said the Miami-based Carnival Corp wrote in court documents that “passengers’ negligent or careless behavior were among the causes, if not the only cause, of the alleged injuries and damages”.

  1. My Head Hurts just thinking about blaming the passengers for this shipwreck! These poor people were just the pasengers

  2. WHAT !!!! ??? This is absurd. I fail to see just how the passengers were responsible for the captain veering off course and basically sinking the ship after ramming into the rocks. Was the ship hijacked by those passengers? As much as Carnival wants to wash their hands of this mess, they are still responsible for proper emergency training of the crew. They are still responsible for the captains hesitation in ordering an “abandon ship” order. I have taken several cruises in different parts of the world, and and have cruised with several cruise line companies (including Carnival). But if this is how Carnival feels, I definitely will NOT be cruising with them again.

  3. Aha! I see the headlines all too clearly now “Carnival blames passengers for the sinking of the RMS Titanic”……..a Carnival spokesperson said that it was the unruly, drunken, loutish, mutinous behavior of passengers in steerage, that caused the unsinkable Titanic to hit an ice berg and sink in the North Atlantic……..
Surely you jest Carnival, surely you must all be in disneyland, but, more specifically in fantasyland
