Dolphins Call Each Other by Name

Research has suggested that dolphins give themselves names by using a use a “signature whistle.” Scientists now believe that other dolphins can mimic these whistles to call out to their fellow dolphins by name. As reported by NBC NewsOther than humans, the dolphins are the only animals known to do this, according to the study, published in the latest Proceedings of the Royal Society B. The big difference with bottlenose dolphins is that these communications consist of whistles, not words.
