Around this time of year, historic and modern ships suddenly become haunted and ghostly. (To be fair, some are reported to be haunted all year round.) Here is a round-up of a lucky thirteen haunted or ghostly ships open to the public around Halloween. Check the links for dates, times and locations.<br />

<a href="http://www.nauticus.org/" target="_blank">Nauticus Museum</a> in downtown Norfolk, VA is giving visitors <a href="http://www.nauticus.org/programs-activities/bb64-paranormal-investigation" target="_blank">haunted tours of sections of the USS <em>Wisconsin</em></a>.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.lsmma.com/" target="_blank">The Lake Superior Marine Museum Association</a> is hosting the<a href="http://duluthhauntedship.com/" target="_blank"><em> William A. Irvin</em> Haunted Ship Tours </a>in Duluth, MN.</p>
<p>In Erie, PA the Flagship <em><a href="http://flagshipniagara.org/flagship_niagara/index.htm" target="_blank">Niagara</a></em> is hosting <a href="http://www.ghostsafloat.org/" target="_blank">Ghosts Afloat</a>.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://battleshipnc.com/" target="_blank">Battleship<em> North Carolina</em></a> is transformed into a <a href="http://battleshipnc.com/Events/GhostShip.aspx" target="_blank">Ghost Ship</a> in Wilmington, NC.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.patriotspoint.org/news_events/blackbeards-ghost-on-the-yorktown-28-31-october/" target="_blank">Blackbeard&#8217;s ghost</a> is expected to make an appearance on the <a href="http://www.patriotspoint.org/">USS <em>Yorktown</em> at Patriots Point</a>, Mount Pleasant, SC.</p>
<p>In Washington D.C. the <a href="http://www.navyhistory.org/event/66/ghost-ship-barry/" target="_blank">Ghost Ship<em> Barry</em></a> is accepting visitors on Friday night.</p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.uscg.mil/d9/cgcmobilebay/" target="_blank">U.S. Coast Guard Cutter <em>Mobile Bay</em></a> in Sturgeon Bay, WI is being turned into a<a href="http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/article/20111019/ADV05/110190654/Coast-Guard-cutter-becomes-Ghost-Ship" target="_blank"> Ghost Ship</a>.</p>
<p>In Newport Beach, CA, the<a href="http://ghostship.com/" target="_blank"> Ghost Ship</a> sets sail.</p>
<p>In Columbus, Ohio, the<a href="http://www.santamaria.org/index.php" target="_blank"><em> Santa Maria</em> becomes a Haunted Ship</a>.</p>
<p>On the <a href="http://www.hauntedbay.com/features/usshornet.shtml" target="_blank">USS <em>Hornet</em>, Alameda CA&#8217;s Haunted Aircraft Carrier</a>, Halloween is being celebrated with a <a href="http://www.uss-hornet.org/calendar/halloween/" target="_blank">Monster Bash</a>!</p>
<p>In Quincy, MA the <a href="http://www.hauntedship.com/" target="_blank">USS <em>Salem</em> becomes the Haunted Ship</a></p>
<p>The windjammer <em><a href="http://www.sdmaritime.org/star-of-india/" target="_blank">Star of India</a></em> in San Diego, CA, which is reported to be haunted by at least two sailors year round, is hosting a <a href="http://www.nbcsandiego.com/the-scene/events/Halloween-on-the-Haunted-Ship-67200652.html" target="_blank">Halloween Carnival</a>.</p>
<p>In Wildwood, NJ, <a href="http://www.moreyspiers.com/fears/" target="_blank">Morey&#8217;s Piers</a> at Mariner&#8217;s Landing is featuring &#8221;Terror on the Boardwalk&#8221; with their own <a href="http://www.courierpostonline.com/article/20111013/ENT/310130047/Morey-s-transforms-Mariner-s-Landing-Halloween" target="_blank">Ghost Ship. </a></p>
<p>In Newport, Kentucky, on the Ohio River, <a href="http://www.ussnightmare.com/history-design.html" target="_blank">USS Nightmare, is America’s Premier Haunted Steamboat</a>.  (Thanks to Tim Koch for pointing it out.)</p>

<p><a href="http://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/index.ssf/2010/10/muskegon_officials_sink_lst_zo.html" target="_blank">No Zombies on the LST</a> &#8211; Sadly the LST Zombie Ship in Muskegon, MI has been sunk this year by a lack of city permits.   Who knew that the un-dead could be vanquished by bureaucracy.</p>
