The Long Strange Voyage of Valeska Paris on the Scientology “Cruise Ship” Freewinds

Valeska Paris recently appeared on the Australian television program “Lateline”  where she charged that she was held for twelve years against her will on the cruise ship MV Freewinds, a ship operated by the Church of Scientology. The ship, the ex- MS Bohème for Wallenius Lines, is used as a training and recreational center by the church.  The church denies all charges.  Scientology is a religion created by L. Ron Hubbard, a science fiction writer, in the early 1950s.

The Village Voice recently interviewed Valeska Paris: Scientology’s Cruise Ship as Prison: The Voice Interviews Valeska Paris

Valeska Paris was born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1977. She had two younger siblings — Melissa (1979) and Raphael (1982) — and their lives changed radically when their parents, who were both Scientologists, split up and her father, Jean-Francois Paris, decided to join the church’s Sea Org in England. At only 6 years of age, Valeska was put into a former Scientology organization known as the “Cadet Org.” (Her sibs joined too — Melissa was only 4, and Raphael barely 2, she points out.)

Her sister, Melissa, has written that the Cadet Org was a sort of “mini Sea Org,” where even the youngest children were treated like future hardcore church workers, and were “assigned all sorts of manual labor: scrubbing walls, floors, cleaning the toilets…not stuff that kids would normally do.” (We’re going to be interviewing Melissa, who has her own story to tell about growing up in Scientology and living in a family torn apart by the church.)

Scientology believes that each of us has lived countless lives over billions of years — our souls, which Scientology calls “thetans,” are ancient, and so even when we inhabit a new body in a new life, as a child, there is actually an adult soul inside.

“We were just future Sea Org members that needed to be molded into ‘good’ SO members which meant breaking us down into robots,” Melissa writes.

Valeska did join the Sea Org, at only 14 years old, signing its standard billion-year contract, promising to come back, lifetime after lifetime, to serve the church by working incredible hours for only 50 dollars a week.

The Long Strange Voyage of Valeska Paris on the Scientology “Cruise Ship” Freewinds — 7 Comments

  1. I found this is interesting as I served in the MS Boheme as Second Officer about 40 years ago. Many years later I happened to berth astern of her in Freeport, Grand Bahama in another cruise ship. I went along to visit my old ship in uiform and was greeted to my surprise with quite a hostile gangway watch. Dressed in white uniforms with black combat boots and a clear NO VISITORS. Later someone came from the MS Freewinds to our ship and said I could visit them if I signed some forms – I told them to get lost. Over the years I have heard similar stories about this cult and a former shipmate vanished it their clutches.

  2. The policy letters of their God Ron clearly state that you can lie to, harass, rob, beat and do whatever you want to a person that they declare an SP or PTS.
In fact, even if you are not PTS-SP, if you are down-stat, any staff member can abuse you, and won’t be punished.
That goes for their slaves on the ship. Imprisonment in Scientology is a fact of life.
The billion year contract gives them the right under admiralty law, to treat you as a slave on board. The captain is the master, and you the slave.
But the admiralty law has to be with full and complete disclosure of all facts or it is null and void in contract law.
Under the Billion year admiralty contract, you are NOT allowed to word clear it, or take your time to read it. You are given no right to refuse or else you are considered an SP if you want to investigate the contract or even take it home for study. Once you sign it, all the people on ship are slaves to whatever the captain wants. He can even kill you and throw your body to the fish.
The facts are these, the US Federal and State attorneys use Admiralty law on land, and the rules and statutes we think are laws, are used on land to violate the Constitution. Because admiralty law on land used upon live people, is treason!!!
So, it does not matter who said what. They did not give anyone full and complete disclosure in the Billion year contract, that you are their slave on land or on the seas.
The numbers are on our side. We are hundreds of thousands or by now a million Ex-Scientologists and the Ronbots are fewer each day.
To fight them you must fight the Admiralty Contract used to enslave you.

  3. Hubbard took his spiritual therapy voyaging into his “past lives” so seriously, that at Hubbard’s funeral ceremony, Pat Broeker displayed a session worksheet in Hubbard’s handwriting, showing the depth Hubbard reached into his past lives, in his final years of spiritual research. In more ways than one, the Hubbard funeral leaked video (broken into 16 parts on YouTube) provides very historical truthful history of just how seriously Hubbard took his pastlives spiritual voyaging, and his followers’ reactions. 6th video into the event, 03:50 is the worksheet moment showing Hubbard’s past lives depth of recall

(Pat Broeker introduced to audience by David Miscavige, Miscavige ousted Broeker at the top spot role, and Miscavige leads the movement as of 2011)  Broeker was Hubbard’s actual right hand man, in hiding with Hubbard until Hubbard died.   Broeker left the church in a power struggle with Miscavige, in 1989ish.  He’s never talked publicly since. – Chuck Beatty, ex Sea Org (1975-2003)

  4. Very interesting.

I understand that she had serious problems with asbestos in 2008 but was apparently in service in 2009, according to DNV. She is over 30 years old but many cruise ships have operated far longer.

  5. Prior to SOLAS 2010 there were a number of older cruise ships floating around. The Chandris SS Brittanis ran for almost seventy years. The SS Oceanic is still operating as the “Peace Ship” and is a few years older than MS Boheme. The MV Doulos ran for the 95 years. We can agree that the Freewinds is old and tired.
